Top Dogs at MoneySavingExpert have revealed how you can get £ 25 a week to help pay your heating bills for each week you see freezing cold.
The financial advisory service, chaired by Martin Lewis, provided details of the government’s cold weather payment.
“You will receive £ 25 whenever the average temperature in your area is – or should be – 0 ° C or less for seven consecutive days between November 1 and March 31,” writes Andrew Capstick.

Payment is only available to seniors and those on special benefit plans.
Those who receive pension credit and do not live in a nursing home, or who receive mortgage interest assistance, are probably eligible.
You may receive payment if you apply for Income Assistance, Job Seeker’s Allowance, or Universal Credit.
MoneySavingExpert indicates that your eligibility depends on your situation:
- Income support and income-based jobseeker’s allowance – You will be eligible if you have a disability or pensioner bonus, have a disabled child, get child tax credits that include an element of disability or severe disability, or if you have a child under the age of five. years living with you.
- Employment Benefit and Income Support Benefit – You will be eligible if you have a severe or enhanced disability premium, a pensioner’s premium, a disabled child, get child tax credits that include a disability or severe disability component, or if you have a child. under the age of five living with you.
- Universal credit – You will be eligible if you have a health condition or disability and have limited work capacity, or if you have a child under the age of five living with you.
All payment should be paid automatically.
